Random Rant
Backstory: In November of 2021, I contracted with Mediacom for 24 months to have Cable TV and Internet Service for about a buck and a half or so. So about $150. Long boring story short, I cut the cord but kept Xtreme Internet 1Gig service and I saved about a C-Note per month and all was kosher. 50 became 87 at the 2 year mark. Promotional rate over. New rate 25 service months later went to $109 ish. Or so. Whoa! And in one year it skyrockets to $149. The speed was around 750 Mbps or 25% slower than advertised. Alas! After some deep diving into the matter on the horn with a CSR, I was hooked up with a rate of $29.99 + Taxes and Fees plus $13.00/mo. WAP rental. Granted, the speed is now 129 Mbps (Internet 100 plan) which is plenty fast although I definitely notice the slowdown. But, HD videos don't buffer. 1080p setting. Supposed to be about $44.00 plus 10 bucks for each 50 GB used beyond the 300 allotted. The lady told me I used about 356GB in the 30 day lookback she did. So $55.00 my bill was this month which was 10.00 higher than estimated. Meh. I'll see what it is next month, on January 24th, 2024. It will go up by a tenner in 12 months and then sorta stabilize I'd guess cuz it isn't suitable for families due to its data cap. It's worth noting that Mediacom offerings and their associated tariffs are very challenging to sleuth out and in fact, one time I was told repeatedly on the phone when I tried downgrading to a slower speed that I already had the only tier of service available which made no sense but I saluted smartly and carried on. Sometime later, maybe about a year ish, I called them to say I was switching to the newly available Metronet instead and that it was a matter of dollars and cents. I did make sure I praised Mediacom Internet and really wanted to stay on but 148 a month is too much and too fast for my speed need. And so from there, I was offered the $29.99 regular rate. They actually have a not so Xtreme offering of 25Mbps if I remember correctly but that's pointless if you stream anything or have very many devices demanding resources. No idea if or what that cap on data is. Point is, the savings are huge. $100 per month just like before except now I have 129 Mbps versus 700 Mbps. So, $120.00 for 570 Mbps is pretty steep. Especially wasteful spending money. Do remember, now, that the Department of Veterans Affairs adjudicated this writer as incompetent to manage monetary benefits received by VA. So I have a self-appointed Fiduciary (money manager). Fine by me. They also claim that the SSA deemed me unable to work as of 2006 secondary to back conditions and mental retardation. That's quite defamatory. They denied my application for Individual Unemployability, stating I had not been found incapable of securing or maintaining "substantially gainful employment" due solely to service-connected disability(ies), which is code for "you can earn a living wage doing sedentary work."
That's all for this call. Bye now, Al
Cabinet cronies.
